Exhibition: Monochrome

Exhibition: Monochrome

Showing from 18 March, Monochrome is an exhibition of artworks that resist colour in favour of a black and white palette

This striking exhibition is on view till 17th April and invites viewers to engage with a range of artistic expressions and interpretations, all created featuring shades of black and white.

Monochrome explores the stark contrast and harmony found in these two colours, showcasing the depth and breadth of artistic practices.

Featuring works from leading Aboriginal artists alongside influential contemporary creatives, this exhibition highlights the power of minimalism in art, where the absence of colour speaks volumes in conveying complex ideas, emotions, and narratives.

The exhibition brings together a diverse selection of works, including intricate dot paintings, bold geometric designs, evocative black-and-white photography, and contemporary mixed-media pieces.

"We are thrilled to present Monochrome, a stunning juxtaposition of both traditional Aboriginal art forms and contemporary expressions, all of which use black and white to tell stories in incredibly nuanced and compelling ways," says Mike Mitchell, Gallery Director.

‘Beyond the individual artists, the exhibition serves as a testament to the versatility and adaptability of a black and white palette in any space’

This curated display showcases a mix of artworks by artists such as Carlos Barrios and Idris Murphy, and the monumental large-scale 2m x 3m painting by George Tjungurrayi.

This exhibition also features works by invited artists Riste Andrievski and Sophie Cape. Andrievski's black & white photographs capture the ordered geometric designs of industrial environments while Cape's monochromatic canvases highlight the kinetic and visceral energy that can lends itself to abstract works.

Each image speaks in the universal language of contrasts - black against white, light against shadow, simplicity against complexity.
