Congratulations to Dylan Sarra on receiving the inaugural First Nations fellowship through the Queensland Museum Kurilpa.
The Queensland Museum's First Nations Fellowship is a professional development and research opportunity for an Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander person working in, or aspiring to work in, the arts and cultural heritage or galleries, libraries and museums sectors.
Through an individually tailored program of participation for 12 months, the Fellow will develop a research project exploring Queensland Museum’s collections to create and document new knowledge.
This includes, but is not limited to, our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collections—the Fellow may also choose to explore other Queensland Museum collections where they can contribute First Nations knowledge and new perspectives, for example by researching our extensive Biodiversity & Geosciences collections.
Dylan Sarra is a Taribelang/Gooreng Gooreng artist from the Central Queensland region and currently lives in Meanjin, Brisbane.
With a focus on exploring identity and place, Sarra uses a range of disciplines such as print, digital works and sculpture to gently persuade an audience into humanising the Indigenous experience.
Dylan's solo exhibition will be held in October 2024.
