Celebrating its 10th year in Brisbane, Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley begins the 2025 exhibition calendar year with its annual show ‘Director's Choice’ from January 28th.
The gallery greets the year with an especially enthused spirit as its approaches the 10th anniversary of the opening of its Brisbane space.
After operating galleries for almost 20 years in the Northern Territory, Director Mike Mitchell relocated the business and his family to Brisbane to continue his art passion and business. The modern new gallery space was opened in August 2015.
The exhibition ‘Director's Choice’ highlights the gallery’s diverse stockroom and includes artists who will be further exhibited in 2025. Director Mike Mitchell has selected artworks from the Gallery’s collection showcasing a mix of contemporary and Aboriginal art.
A dynamic mix of works by contemporary artists Arwin Hidayat, Carlos Barrios, Franck Gohier, Matthew Cheyne, Miriam Innes and Susie Choi feature in this year’s selection.
Impressively scaled paintings by Gloria Petyarre, Janelle Napaltjarri Stockman, and Patrick Tjungurrayi drawn from the Gallery’s collection also feature.
An exciting series of paintings from recent Queensland College of Art and Design (QCAD) graduate artist Jorge Mariño Brito also features in the exhibition. Mariño Brito was awarded ‘Best in Show’ at the 2024 QCAD Grad Show.
