Exhibition: Steve Lopes | 'Everyone's Amazing'

Exhibition: Steve Lopes | 'Everyone's Amazing'

Sydney-based artist Steve Lopes returns to Mitchell Fine Art with solo exhibition showing 21 October - 15 November 2025.

Steve Lopes's figurative paintings use landscape as a vehicle to investigate the richness of human existence. His colourful and bold imagery is composed whilst layered with ambiguity, capturing palpitating shifts through time and place.

"These works deal with our defiance of fate and our essential vulnerabilities," Lopes says. "In the increasingly shattered world we find ourselves in, this is an intangible attempt to capture visually the very fleetingness of our being."

Since 1996, Lopes has shown in over 40 solo exhibitions across Australia, Hong Kong and the UK.

In 2017, Lopes travelled to the former battlefields of the Western Front in France and Belgium with 10 other well-known Australian artists and was invited to exhibit works in the touring exhibition Salient – Contemporary artists at the Western Front.

He has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions including 'Not the Way Home' a group exhibition of 13 prominent Australian artists and the Salon de Refuses, both at the SH Ervin Gallery, Sydney.

His works have been acquired in collections such as the National Art Gallery of Australia, Parliament House Art Collection in Canberra, BHP Billiton Art Collection and the Time Warner Collection in New York.

Steve Lopes has won the Gallipoli Art Prize and the Kings School Art Prize in Sydney.

An Artist Talk and Exhibition Opening will be held on Saturday 1 November from 2pm in the gallery. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the exhibition and Lopes' artistic practice.
