Sophie Cape & Idris Murphy at S.H. Ervin Gallery

Sophie Cape and Idris Murphy, feature in 'Holding Ground', a group exhibition at S.H. Ervin Gallery in Sydney until 3 May 2026.

Sophie Cape is a Sydney-based painter whose artworks are vast in scale and performative in their execution as she works outside in collaboration with the elements, free from constraints, using unconventional mediums.

Idris Murphy’s is also a Sydney-based artist whose paintings explore a deep connection to the Australian landscape in aim of capturing the spirit of a place, rather than likeness.

'Holding Ground' reflects how localised landscape values have the potential to open a wiser, urgent discussion on the fate of Mother Earth and our place in it. It is time now to put an end to climate change denial and confront the looming climate catastrophe in front of us.

Works from leading Australian artists with deep connections to various regions of New South Wales include Badger Bates, Sophie Cape, Lucy Culliton, Jo Davenport, Julie Harris, Janet Laurence, Euan Macleod, Mac Maderski,  Idris Murphy, Angus Nivison, Lae Oldmeadow, Julie Paterson, Simon Reece, Mark Seiffert, Imants Tillers, John R Walker and John Wolseley.
