Kategorie: 'Australia Has Cowboys Too' | Franck Gohier

16 June - 11 July 2026

ARTIST TALK & OPENING EVENT: Saturday 20 June, 3-5pm

Franck Gohier is a Darwin-based painter, sculptor and printmaker whose bold, satirical visual language draws on pop culture, politics and the layered histories of Northern Australia.

Charles Darwin University describes his work as “bold” and socially engaged, often addressing political, cultural and historical themes through a distinctly local lens, while his use of bright colour, text and popular imagery connects his practice to the legacies of Pop art and mass media.

In his latest body of work, 'Australia Has Cowboys Too', continues that trajectory: drawing on the iconography of Western comics to explore cattle culture, consumerism and the entanglements of industry, identity and history.

At once playful and critical, the work reflects both a sustained conceptual approach to genre as a vehicle for satire and a deeply personal connection to the landscapes and communities of Northern Australia.
