Mitjili Napurrula is a Pintupi woman from the Haasts Bluff region in Central Australia. This painting is her depiction of the traditional ancestral story ‘Watiya Juta’ from her father’s country.

The painting shows the iconography of the Acacia desert oakwood trees, sandhills and rocks of her country to the west of her community of Haasts Bluff.

The iconography represents the women's side of the Tjukurrpa (dreaming) story, showing the trees that provide the wood used for the making of spears (kulata). The spears are used in hunting and for defence.

The undulating shapes representing the sandhills, the circles are the rocks, and the leaf shape is the tree.

Mitjili was taught her father's Dreaming by her mother, who would draw the patterns of the Uwalki trees directly into the desert sand.
