Collection: Franck Gohier
Franck Gohier is a Darwin-based artist who has an extensive portfolio as a painter, sculptor and printmaker. His work is a genuine response to lived experiences and knowledge of Northern Australia – its people and natural environment, significant political and cultural events, and social history.
Franck Gohier’s artwork is steeped in his political and social consciousness. Satirical, politically and socially motivated his work is a reflection of society and its faults, frailties and triumphs.
"I do not place too much emphasis on explaining my paintings to an audience. Some are obvious, some are ambiguous, and others yet are totally absurdist. I do however invite the viewer to explore the visuals, to read the titles, to allow themselves to imagine what they may interpret the painting to be from their own subjectivity".
A practicing artist since 1987 Franck Gohier's artworks have been acquired by Artbank, the Australian National Gallery Canberra, the Casula Powerhouse Art Centre, Gold Coast Art Gallery, Griffith University, the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney, as well as numerous regional galleries and private collections.
In 2018 Franck Gohier's work was celebrated with a major solo retrospective at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT), Darwin.
