Collection: Ngoia Pollard Napaltjarri
Ngoia Pollard Napaltjarri was born in Haasts Bluff in the late 1940's. She grew up at Haasts Bluff and remembers when people rode on camels and when the women and young girls had to look after herds of goats.
After living at Kintore, Ngoia Pollard Napaltjarri and her husband moved to Mt. Liebig, which was unoccupied at the time.
Ngoia paints her father’s country, which is a sacred Warlpiri territory. The oval shapes in her paintings are an iconographic representation of the swamps and lakes near Nyrripi (Talarada) north west of Mount Liebig where Ngoia lives. The dots represent the water drying up and the cracks in the ground forming. This region is changed with the spiritual presence of the 'water snake' which lies beneath the surface.
In 2004 Ngoia Pollard Napaltjarri received First Prize in the Advocate Central Australian Award and in 2006 was the winner of the prestigious 23rd Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award.
Sadly, Ngoia Pollard Napaltjarri passed away in November 2022.
