Upcoming Exhibition: Jake Moss | 'Hollywoodridge'

The unfiltered realities of an upbringing in public housing in Woodridge, Logan form the basis for Logan artist Jake Moss’s debut exhibition at Mitchell Fine Art, from 10th March 2026.

Presented as a film production timeline - spanning painting, sculpture, installation, video, and sound, Jake Moss’s exhibition unfolds as an autobiographical narrative of his childhood experience deeply influenced by scarcity, homelessness and fracture.

Jake Moss was born in 1994 and draws inspiration from his childhood in a low socioeconomic multicultural area, whilst being exposed to a kaleidoscope of characters including hard-drug users, bikies, sex workers and church- goers.

At first glance, the artworks are vibrant, inviting, and comical. On closer inspection, they reveal the intimate and unfiltered realities of an unconventional upbringing, focusing on home, belonging, nostalgia, identity and youth.

Hollywoodridge resists expectation and stereotype. It is not about where I come from as an idea, but about treating that life with the seriousness, scale, and care usually reserved for cinema.’ says Moss.

The exhibition draws on the mythology of Hollywood, a place Moss felt profoundly distant from in childhood, yet one that symbolised escape, possibility, and transformation, collapsing the distance between glamour and reality and weaving them into a narrative of creative ambition.

Hollywoodridge positions autobiography not as a confession, but as a production. It is a carefully constructed, defiantly ambitious work that reframes origin stories as sites of creative power rather than limitation’ says Gallery Director Mike Mitchell.

An Exhibition Opening Extravaganza will be held on Friday 13 March, 6 – 8pm. Jake Moss invites his audience to break out the feathers and sequins al la Met Gala as he takes them on a red-carpet experience of ‘Hollywoodridge’.

An Artist Talk will be held on Saturday 21st March, from 11am. This is a wonderful opportunity for art lovers and enthusiasts as Jake delves deep into the inspiration of his artistic practice.

All events are free, RSVPs not required.
