Collection: Jorge Mariño Brito

Jorge Mariño Brito was born in Cuba and now lives and works in Brisbane. He graduated from the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane in 2024.

Mariño Brito's artistic practice encompasses painting, papermaking and printmaking. With a background in psychiatry, he draws from his work within Latin American communities, confronting the complexity of navigating different culture and creating safe places. 

Mariño Brito' artwork combines his sensitive depiction of human relationships with a love for painterly materials, bringing intimate moments captured in photographs back to life practice encompasses painting, papermaking and printmaking.

Hs incomplete shapes and ambiguous field of his paintings seek to create a sense of intimacy between the subjects and with the viewer allowing the eye to move freely around the simultaneously energetic and delicate fields

Jorge Mariño Brito has participated in exhibitions in Perth, Sydney, Bundaberg and Brisbane; and has work in permanent collections at the Griffith University Art Museum (GUAM) and the State Library of Queensland.

In 2023, Jorge Mariño Brito was awarded the Iain Turnbull Award from Griffith University Queensland.
