Steve Lopes | 'Lustre' Group Exhibition

Steve Lopes | 'Lustre' Group Exhibition

Steve Lopes features in the exhibition 'Lustre: Contemporary Artists in Greece & Crete' showing at Anzac Memorial, Hyde Park in Sydney from 20 May 2026.

The exhibition features artworks by a selected group of Australian artists who travelled to Greece and Crete in 2025, retracing the footsteps of Australian war artist William Dargie, who documented the sites where ANZAC forces fought during the 1941 Greece and Crete campaigns.

In response to the landscapes, battlefields and contemporary Greek communities, the artists created new works reflecting on shared histories of endurance, protection and sacrifice.

Steve Lopes is a Sydney based painter and printmaker. He often works en plein air, painting vignettes of a place which are used as references for large-scale studio works.

In 2018 Steve won the Gallipoli Art Prize, having travelled to the Western Front battlefields and exhibited works in the touring exhibition SalientContemporary artists at the Western Front.

Steve Lopes' works have been acquired in collections such as the National Gallery of Australia, Parliament House Art Collection, Canberra, BHP Billiton Art Collection and the Time Warner Collection in New York.

The artworks will form a travelling exhibition to five venues.

The participating artists are: Riste Andrievski, Angeliki Androutsopoulos, Michael Bradfield, Deirdre Bean, Michelle Hiscock, Alan Daniel Jones, Joanna Logue, Steve Lopes, Euan Macleod, Natalie Leontaris O'Connor, Amanda Penrose Hart, and Rodney Pople.
