In this painting Bombatu depicts designs associated with the rockhole and soakage water site of Ngaminya, south west of the Kiwirrkura community in the Western Australian desert.
The lines represent “Puli” (rocky outcrops) and “Tali” (sandhills) surrounding Ngaminya.
During earlier times the women would camp here, collecting berries which could be eaten straight from the bush or ground into a paste and cooked in coals to form a type of damper. The women continued their travels further east, passing through the nearby rockhole site of Wirrulnga before travelling north to Wilkinkarra (Lake Mackay).
