In this painting Janet has depicted the story 'Ngapa' or Water Dreaming. The lines in this artwork represent the underground flowing water at Warntaparra, which is a significant place for the Warlpiri people in Central Australia.

Prior to western contact the knowledge of local water sources was vital for survival. At this place ceremonies are performed, they paint. Bodies are painted with white ochre and they sit singing to involve the ancestral spirits to ensure rain.

This knowledge was passed down the generation via song, dance and ceremony, becoming learned and ingrained.
