This painting is Lorna’s depiction of Yipandari, a small shrubby ground cover that is loosely referred to as “kangaroo tucker”.

With the rains the shrubs regenerate growing flowers, attracting the kangaroos which eat the foliage. The kangaroo is the largest game meat available to the Warlpiri people of the Tanami desert and is an important part of their diet. It is a highly sought after food staple.
