For Maureen's people, the Blackberry bush plant is a highly valued source of traditional bush food and bush medicine.

As a child growing up traditionally in the bush, Nampitjinpa was taught by her mother and elder female relatives how to identify, harvest, and utilise these native plants.

The  paintings are a direct celebration of this ancestral survival knowledge, honoring the fertility and sustenance provided by her Country.
