Tjungurrayi was a senior law man who looked after ceremony and country between Balgo, Kiwirrkurra and Kintore. His paintings depict stories associated with various sites and events from mythological times. Central are the mythical ancestral beings known as the Tingari men and women.
They were a group that traversed the land creating the landscape and everything in it. Not just the physical elements of their homelands but the spiritual as well. The geography, ceremony and rituals were all created by the spiritual ancestors at the genesis of the world.
