Collection: Odessa Mahony-de Vries
Sunshine Coast based artist Odessa Mahony-de Vries is known for her colourful large-scale abstract oil paintings, indulgent in colour, gesture, and movement. Her artworks are bold and expressive, drawing attention to her bodily gestures.
With a process-based approach she layers the work continuously until discovering the unexpected, muddiness and light. She works instinctively, reacting to the materials immediately and intuitively leading to the physicality of materials being foregrounded through texture, scale, and movement.
She completed a Bachelor of Arts Fine Art Degree at RMIT in 2018 and has been working in a studio space in Nambour on the Sunshine Coast since 2023.
Recent exhibition highlights include solo shows at Gympie Regional Gallery and the Umbrella Studio Contemporary Gallery in Townsville.
