Works on Paper | Arwin Hidayat

Arwin Hidayat was born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and is an alumnus of the Indonesian Institute of Art, Yogyakarta.

Arwin has been drawing since childhood and depicts a kaleidoscopic array of subjects drawn from his internal and external world. Motifs from spirituality and folk mythology, household objects, animals and people coalesce into distinctive and distorted forms.

Within these hybridised graphic configurations, effects of the human spirit; from melancholia to primal vitality, are brought to the fore using vivid colours and dense symbolic interplay.

Arwin exhibits extensively in group and solo exhibitions in Indonesia and his work is held in the National Gallery of Victoria.

In 2025, Arwin was commissioned by Australian fashion brand Zimmerman to create permanent installations in Bahrain, Beijing, Chengdu, Melbourne and Sydney.
