Collection: 'Incantation' | Idris Murphy

One of Australia's leading contemporary landscape artists, Idris Murphy returns to Mitchell Fine Art with a major exhibition featuring two significant bodies of work: a rare collection of dioramas presented alongside a new series of paintings inspired by the Australian outback. 

Bringing together three-dimensional works and expansive, luminous landscapes, the exhibition offers a unique insight into Murphy's evolving practice and his enduring exploration of the emotional and spiritual experience of the Australian landscape.

Murphy’s paintings explore a deep connection to the Australian landscape in aim of capturing the spirit of a place, rather than likeness. His en plein air practice provides him that intrinsic connection to the environment that surrounds him, with his ‘expeditions’ through the Australian bush ‘offering him enough to last a lifetime’.

His work is held in the public collections of the National Gallery of Australia, National Library of Australia, Federal Parliament House Art Collection and the Art Gallery of NSW, State Library of New South Wales, and the State Library of Queensland.
