MELBOURNE ART 2027 FAIR | Arwin Hidayat

This presentation brings together a focused selection of new works by Indonesian artist Arwin Hidayat, whose practice moves fluidly between painting, sculpture, drawing, and batik.

Born and based in Yogyakarta, Hidayat draws upon the visual language of Javanese folklore, street culture, and personal memory to create densely layered compositions populated by hybrid creatures, distorted figures, birds, serpents, and symbolic motifs.

Arwin exhibits extensively in group and solo exhibitions in Indonesia and his work is held in the National Gallery of Victoria.

In 2025, Arwin was commissioned by Australian fashion brand Zimmerman to create permanent installations in Bahrain, Beijing, Chengdu, Melbourne and Sydney.
