Kathleen Ngale lived at the small community of Utopia, 240km north east of Alice Springs in Central Australia.

Kathleen began her artistic career in the late 1970’s when the Batik-making project was introduced to the women in Utopia.

Kathleen artworks depiction ‘Anwekety’ or wild Bush Plum fruit. The Bush Plum is a small native blackberry which grows on the Conkerberry bush after good rains.  It is a prolific native fruit that is full of nutrients and vitamins.

The berries are collected by the Anmatyerre women and are an important food source.

Kathleen creates her works through building up textured layers of interlacing dots and colour, representing the changing seasonal colours of the plant and its fruit.
