These melaleucas trees are at Noosa North Shore.  The trunks yellow and ochre in good health with the water that was there. I visited there recently, and they were in the grey phase, dry and a little sad as the swamp is gone now in the general flux of life.

My work is often filled with trees, I find the endless variety of colours and angles to be a great draw, a soothing way to spend time painting, stroking the bark and foliage as I build the matrix.

The inflatable birds hanging from the trees are a sad poke at the amount of plastic winding up in the digestive tracts of creatures dependent on the sea for their living.

I find irony in the way plastic can be so useful, and we are drawn to the bright colours and quick fixes it provides.  I have often used weathered plastic as subject matter in my work, it can be so visually attractive, while at the same time it becomes a scourge to life on earth.
