These works are centered around the handmade Cotton Tree fire sticks decorated in ochre and emu feathers. These materials reflect the country I belong to.

This can open an interesting conversation about the diversity of Indigenous culture with a connection to people and place.

Fire becomes the metaphor in these works as the graphic text speaks to words of encouragement and reflection from my family. These words inspire me, encourage me, and are an invitation for others to join in.

Through this series, I want people to see that fire is more than survival. It’s a valuable metaphoric tool. It is renewal, warmth, and the spark that keeps our stories burning bright.

Each stick holds memory and intention, showing how knowledge is handed down but kept alive through action. By pairing these words with the fire sticks, I hope to remind us all that what we pass on. Our words, our work, and our sparks can light the way for others too.
