charcoal rubbings on muslin

Using a charcoal rubbing technique, Dylan Sarra reveals the barely visible petroglyphs on displaced stones from the Burnett River near Bundaberg, QLD, an area known as Cedars Crossing.

The Muslin swatches provide the ideal rubbing medium to collect the details from the petroglyphs.

Dylan’s ancestral family lived beside the Burral Burral (Burnett River) prior to settlement and created the rock carvings (petroglyphs) as part of their story telling process.

This method of uncovering lost symbols represents healing and reconnection, bringing ancient stories back to life.
